The opportunity I have chosen is the transportation of
college students. There is a very big
need for transportation for college students.
This need increases when it is time for them to go home for the
holidays. They are my potential
customers. The reason that this
opportunity exists is because many students do not bring their car up to
college. As of now, college students are
satisfying their need of transportation by taking buses. However, they are not that loyal to that
system. This is a big opportunity, and I
believe that the window of opportunity will be open for quite a long time.
My idea is a phone application called Ride. This app would be somewhat similar to
Uber. When college students need to go
home for the holidays, they would be able to request a ride from another
student that is also going to the same city.
The students that are willing to offer the rides will be
compensated. It is different than Uber
because Uber is only used for short trips.
My app would be used for trips that are at least an hour long. Some trips could even be 10 hours long.
Customers will switch to this new product because it will be
easier and cheaper than other options.
My competitors would be the buses.
However, their weakness is that bus trips can take a long time. The only employees my venture would consist
of are the people giving rides.
My most important resource would be the number of college
students that want to make money by giving rides. The thing that is next for my venture would
be providing more and more rides for people around the country. In the next decade, I want to be a successful
entrepreneur that has created all kinds of innovations that can help people.
Hey Tyler,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great concept. I like how thoughtful you were about creating a solution to a need that has been long standing. As far as your app goes, what are some of the payment options that you are offering? Are you offering flat compensation or compensation plus fuel money? Looking at ways to make cash flow throughout the year, is there a way that this could be used for students traveling to away games, Spring Break, or other events? I think trying to create a way for consistent cash flow would be one of the best ways for long term growth. Great concept! Hey Tyler,
ReplyDeleteAs a student here at UF I can definitely say all students would really appreciate this concept. A few suggestions that I have is to probably give a little more detail about your company specifically about pricing. Also, maybe take it a step further in explaining what makes this any different from UF Ride board's facebook page? I think it's important to acknowledge that competitor so you can make sure to sell your idea in a strong way. Either way good job, here is my idea if you'd like to check it out: http://entreprevision.blogspot.com/2016/03/venture-concept-no1.html
Hey Tyler, I think that you have a very good idea. As a student without a car, I've been in that situation a few times. For instance, I wanted to go home for Easter weekend and I asked several friends if they were going home and if they would be willing to give me a ride, and I did end up finding a ride home, but he was going back to school the day before I wanted to. I ended up taking a bus back to school, and although the ride was quite nice, it was also pretty expensive, and I would much rather spend less money to have a fellow student give me a ride. Great idea, and keep going with it! Here's a link to my blog post so that you can check out my venture concept.

ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic idea. It takes care pooling to the next level. This is especially beneficial for students who do not bring a ton of luggage or belongings along when going back home. This app can even potentially account for luggage by making the riders check how much luggage they are bringing. I guess the challenge would be pricing, but for me personally, rides like this is always superior to busses since it takes me to my house, not to some downtown bus station 10miles from my house.
