Idea Napkin No. 1

I am an entrepreneur.  My skills include talking to customers and coming up with new ideas.  I think that my business can play a huge role in my life.  If it is a success, I could potentially make a whole career out of it.

I am offering my customers a mode of transportation when they need to get a ride home from their college town.

I am offering this to college students around the ages of 18-24.  I will market the idea mainly to those who do not own a car.  However, I will also market the idea to those with a car, because they will be the people giving the rides.

People will pay for this idea because all college students go home for the holidays.  Many of them do not have cars.  This means that they either have to take a bus or try to find a ride with a friend.  This can be very troublesome for some people.  With this system, they will always have a reliable ride for the holidays, and it will be cheaper than a bus ticket.

This idea is very unique.  I do not believe that there is anything like this on the market right now.  I am set apart from my competitors because I will provide cheaper prices.

I believe that all of these elements fit together.  My skills as an entrepreneur can translate to this business idea that I have.  This idea can make students' lives a lot easier.

  1. Tyler-

I think that your idea could be a good one, if executed correctly. One of the issues I found with your proposed business was “what is stopping them from doing it themselves”. I would consider this issue, and try to explain why your concept would be better. Your idea also reminded me of Uber! It is like Uber: The Extended Version!

In our blog posts, we were similar in that we both want to cater to college students, like ourselves. Our ideas differ when it comes to our service, though. Here is my blog post on the same topic, if you would like to see it: http://kwallaceent.blogspot.com/2016/02/idea-napkin-no-1.html

    Good luck!

  2. Hey Tyler, I think you are really focused on your business concept and have a plan to make it grow which is great. I also think it's smart you are going for a specific target market, the only issue I would see is that it sounds quite similar to service such as Lyft and Uber, but as long as you can differentiate yourself from them by marketing your long trips I could see this being successful. 3. Hi Tyler!
I really do like your idea but I have a few concerns - I am wondering how it is different from Uber/Zipcar? I think that there is a certainly a need for this kind of service for college students - myself included. I appreciate that you are trying to ease the life of college students with this idea! 4. I can definitely relate to your idea and can see how it is beneficial while standing out from Uber/Lyft/etc. As the others said, this will likely pair riders/drivers based on their destination, so the cost wouldn't be too high for the rider (as it would be with Uber). Our ideas both center around logistics, only mine is door-to-door rather than mutual benefit. Check out my blog at http://ufentclassblog.blogspot.com/2016/02/idea-napkin-no-1.html
